Waiting

Migrants wait to board a police bus after arriving on the Italian Coast Guard vessel “Fiorillo” at the Armed Forces of Malta Maritime Squadron base at Haywharf in Valletta’s Marsamxett Harbour June 26, 2008. Seventy-six migrants were rescued by fishing trawlers and then transferred to the “Fiorillo” 32 nautical miles south-west of Malta when they found themselves in difficulty while on their way to reach European soil from Africa. Ten migrants are believed to have drowned, military sources said

Waiting

Side lighting is always going to look better than direct on-camera flash.  I had noticed the colours of these immigrants’ clothing as they stood against the side of a rusting container, and waited for the light of a TV camera off to the side to illuminate them.  Very often I find myself waiting for headlamps of passing vehicles to light a scene.
